Get Started
Basuraleza is an innovative non-profit project developed for the Madrid City Council to tackle the social issue of waste in vacant lots, rivers, alleys, streets, forests, and fields. The goal was to raise awareness about collecting and recycling waste, making the process easy, fun, engaging, and impactful.
We believe that waste can be transformed into new resources, thus giving "new life" to what was once considered garbage.
Tackling Waste: The Challenge We Faced
Our society faces a significant problem with waste management in various environments, such as urban areas, natural settings, and coastal regions. The challenge was to create an application that would not only raise awareness but also actively involve and motivate people to collect and recycle waste.
Leading the Way: My Role in Basuraleza
As the UX/UI designer and project leader, I was responsible for conceptualizing and designing the entire application. I drew inspiration from the animated film Wall-E and incorporated gamification to create an engaging and user-friendly experience. My role included designing the interfaces, user journey, and all visual elements of the app.

From Concept to Creation: The Design Journey

Real Impact: Success Stories from Our Users
Our target users are already part of the application and represent success stories. Here are three personas who were positively impacted by Basuraleza
Our Innovative Solution: Meet the B-bots
Basuraleza's solution revolves around a character-driven, gamified experience:
Main Character: B-leza, a futuristic robot, guides users through the app.
Supporting Characters: The B-bots, each responsible for different types of waste:
Together, they create an engaging narrative that motivates users to participate in waste collection and recycling.
Visualizing the Journey: Key Wireframes of Basuraleza
To illustrate the core user experience of Basuraleza, here are the wireframes of four main screens:
Welcome Page
Upon launching the app, users are greeted warmly by B-leza, who introduces the app’s story and objective. This screen is designed to immerse users in the narrative, making them feel like protagonists in the mission to clean up the environment.
Home Page
The home page provides users with a quick overview of their history and progress. This screen is essential for users to see their achievements and stay motivated.
Congratulations Page
After completing a clean-up, users see the before-and-after images of the site. This visual impact reinforces the user’s contribution and provides a sense of accomplishment.
History Page
This page allows users to easily recall and view all the locations where they have made a difference. It serves as a personal log of their contributions to nature.
